Where to stay in Seoul
Myeong-dong 명동
Best for: A first visit — shopping, street food, and everything else a short ride away. The most central place to sleep. Palaces, Namsan Tower, Dongdaemun and the markets are all within 15 minutes.

- The street-food lanes are packed until late. Rooms in older hotels are small.
Jongno & Insadong 종로·인사동
Best for: Palaces and old Seoul on foot. Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Bukchon and Ikseon-dong are walking distance. Hanok guesthouses in the alleys.

- Quieter after 22:00 — fewer late-night food options than Myeong-dong or Hongdae.
Hongdae 홍대
Best for: Nightlife, live music, and the cheapest beds. Young, busy, lots of hostels. The one neighbourhood with a direct train to Incheon Airport and still something to do at 2 am.

- Friday and Saturday nights are loud until morning. Ask for a room away from the main streets.
Seoul Station 서울역
Best for: Early flights, late arrivals, or taking the KTX to Busan. Pure convenience. The airport express leaves from the station, and so do the fast trains to Busan and Gyeongju.

- Not much to do in the evening — you will ride into Myeong-dong (one stop) to eat.
Seochon 서촌
Best for: A quiet, local-feeling stay next to the main palace. Hanok alleys on the west side of Gyeongbokgung, with small cafés and Tongin Market. Far calmer than Bukchon.

Gangnam 강남
Best for: Business trips, modern hotels, COEX and Lotte World. Newer, bigger hotels, department stores and the Starfield Library. Close to Lotte World Tower.

Itaewon 이태원
Best for: Food from everywhere and an easy place to be foreign. The most international neighbourhood in Seoul, with halal food, English everywhere and Leeum museum nearby.

- Hilly streets — heavy luggage is hard work.
Where to stay in Busan
Haeundae 해운대
Best for: A beach holiday with big hotels. The famous beach, BUSAN X the SKY, and Blueline Park. Resort hotels along the sand.

- Summer weekends are the busiest place in the country.
Gwangalli 광안리
Best for: The bridge view at night, calmer than Haeundae. The lit-up Gwangan Bridge from your window, cafés along the beach, and Saturday drone shows in season.

Seomyeon 서면
Best for: Getting everywhere in Busan cheaply. Busan’s downtown. Two subway lines, the cheapest rooms, and food until late.

- No sea view, and the bar streets are noisy on weekends.
Nampo & Jagalchi 남포
Best for: Markets, old Busan, and the KTX. Jagalchi fish market, BIFF Square and Gukje Market on your doorstep; Gamcheon Culture Village is a short bus ride.

Where to stay in Jeju
Jeju City (near the airport) 제주시 (연동·노형)
Best for: Short stays, no car, and late or early flights. Restaurants, Dongmun Market and the bus terminal. The easiest base if you are not renting a car.

- Everything scenic is 1 hour or more away by bus.
Seogwipo 서귀포
Best for: Waterfalls, the south coast and Olle walks. Cheonjiyeon and Jeongbang falls, Olle Route 7 and Jungmun resort beaches are all close.

Seongsan (east coast) 성산
Best for: Sunrise at Seongsan Ilchulbong and the ferry to Udo. Stay the night and climb the peak for sunrise before the tour buses arrive; the Udo ferry is five minutes away.

- Very few restaurants open after 20:00.
Where to stay in Gyeongju
Hwangnidan-gil 황리단길
Best for: Walking to the royal tombs and Donggung Palace at night. Hanok cafés and guesthouses next to Daereungwon; Donggung and Wolji, lit up after dark, is a 15-minute walk.

- Nearest is Gimhae (Busan) or Pohang — most people come by KTX

- Bulguksa and Seokguram are 30–40 minutes away by bus.
Where to stay in Jeonju
Jeonju Hanok Village 전주한옥마을
Best for: A night in a traditional hanok. Sleeping in a hanok is the point: floor mattresses, a courtyard, and the village empty and quiet after the day visitors leave.
